Holy Thread

The sacred white thread called Janaeu (holy thread) is a thin consecrated cord, donned by the Brahmins from the age of 12 is part of their 16 Sanskaar.

Worn during the ‘Upanayan Sanskar’, which is the 10th Sanskaar of Santana Hindu religion, the Janaeu symbolises the sacred vision to see things in a proper way.

Not many people would know that wearing Janaeu has benefits apart from religious significance.

Tying a Janaeu on the ears increases one’s memory. It also helps in preventing constipation and keeps the stomach free from diseases.

The Janaeu ceremony is always performed sitting cross-legged on the floor. The science behind sitting cross-legged has many health benefits.

The three threads of a Janaeu denotes the Goddesses of personal strength (Parvati), wealth (Lakshmi) and knowledge (Saraswati). A man can only lead a good life if he has these three traits and thereby attributes it to these 3 deities.

It is also believed that those who wear a Janaeu are free from negative thoughts and energy.

In their research, the medical science has found that those who wear Janaeu do not complain about blood pressure as much as those who don’t wear it.
